Ete calls for economic empowerment of women
ITANAGAR, Mar 21: Renowned social activist and Chairperson of Arunachal Pradesh Rajiv
Gandhi Panchajati Raj Sangathan, Jarjum Ete called for social and economic empowerment
of women. Every woman should have self confidence, freedom to express their problems
in the present patriarchal society, she said while addressing the inaugural function
of the three-
Women must have critical thinking and analytical bent of mind, Ete, who is also Member of Expert Committee on National Commission for Women (standing committee), said. She further added that empowerment of women doesn’t mean disempowerment of men and women must come out of the confinement of choosing typical professions done by women alone for centuries, they must choose to become Scientists, Pilots, teachers, doctors, engineers. “No area is meant particularly for any gender alone’ she emphatically said.
The Chief Guest of the function and former chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women Ete also spoke about lack of women’s right in land inheritance in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, and said that the parental property is not shared equally among male and female children. She advised the girls to have willingness and interest to learn things, and to become entrepreneurs.
The workshop being sponsored by the IGNOU Regional Centre, Naharlagun is participating by around 75 selected girl students from various schools, Don Bosco College, Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic, North East Homeopathy Medical College and some women from nearby villages.
The Guest of Honour and IGNOU Regional Director, Dr. S.J. Neethirajan highlighted the disadvantages, discrimination and oppression that women have been facing in the society. He called for creating positive economic and social policies for full development of women to enable them realize their full potential. Equal access to women on health care, quality education, career and vocational guidance, employment, remuneration, occupational health and safely, social security and public office are the essential components of real women empowerment, he said.
Emphasizing on need based and quality education for rural women folk, he said that the education they get must instill self confidence and courage to fight against any form of exploitation. The mind set up and emotional quotient of women should be trained that is the real empowerment, he added.
Dr. V.N. Sharma, State Liaison Officer, NSS, the Coordinator of the programme encouraged the students.
Outgoing ANYA chief calls for social movement
ITANAGAR, Mar 21: Central Executive body meeting of All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) was held at Naharlagun recently which was also attended by district unit members.
Addressing the meeting the outgoing president of the association Ngurang Changraing highlighted about the achievement of the association during his tenure as a president.
He thanked all the executive members of the association and the district unit for their untiring efforts and cooperation with him in the course of ANYA movement. Changriang appealed the central executive members and district units to continue their endeavor to create awareness amongst youth by campaigning against social evils, drugs, HIV/AIDS, deforestation, ecological imbalance to bring back the strayed youth to the mainstream of the proper life and development.

do justice to the Association while performing his duty as the member of the Juvenile

ITANAGAR, Mar 21: Dolang Tari Memorial Foundation, Naharlagun with financial assistance from state social welfare board, Naharlagun conducted awareness generation camp at Naharlagun today. Resource person of the day, ASM Tai Hipik and ADO Dolang Akum highlighting about the importance of education urged the participants to educate their children by sending them to school.
The resource person further briefing about the role of women in the society said that women can play a bigger role in the social and economic activities.
While, Dolyang Lanyang highlighting about water borne diseases and safe drinking water, appealed the participants to drink boiled water and use purified drinking water.
Meanwhile, the president of the society Dolang Kechak thanked to the Chairperson State Board for providing help to the society.
ITANAGAR, Mar 21: Reinforcing the grassroots approach toward women empowerment the celebration of International Women’s Day throughout the state with a legal awareness campaign on Domestic Violence Act 2005 culminated at Oju Welfare Association office premises on March 20.
Congratulating the women on the passing of the historic Women’s Reservation Bill in the Rajya Rajya and highlighting on the importance of Domestic Violence Act, APSCW Chairperson Komoli Mossang said that women today are better equipped in the society because of the innumerable sacrifices they made throughout the history of women movement.
Giving a brief history of the Women day celebration throughout the world Mossang said the event was organized on March 20 to mark a century of women empowerment since the International Day of the Women which was first celebrated on March 19, 1911.
“It is a day to honor Late Nyari Welly and Late Omem Moyong Deori for their path breaking and immense contributions to the society and simultaneously for acknowledging the selfless and indomitable spirits of all those women who have stood beside their husbands and brothers in their tough road towards society’s development”, she said.
Nani Dai , Editor of the Echo of Arunachal, the Guest of Honour of the event, in her brief and innovative speech assured to give more emphasis on the women emancipation though her English Daily.
Oju Welfare Mission chairperson Binny Yanga while congratulating women achievers all over the world, called upon one and all, particularly women to continue their fight for justice and empowerment.
Earlier , Mamata Riba, Member Secretary APSCW, delivering the keynote address thanked the National Commission for Women for their support besides funding of the programme, and the Chairperson Oju Welfare Association chairperson Bini Yanga for her tireless endeavour in rehabilitation of victimized women and children .

Maro circle office starts functioning
ITANAGAR, Mar 21: A Circle office at Maro, Upper Subansiri district has formally started functioning from March 17.
The centre is curbed out from Baririjo circle covering twenty two villages, namely, Lipu, Tama Ripa, Tashi Doni, Dula, Tode, Kararijo, Tapi, Yatek Ripa, Lushi, Rishimaro, Retemaro, Lotemaro, Lidri, Risiropuk, Betcharopuk, Nijo, Tabarijo, Roniya, Nuk and Panyomuri.
Speaking on the inaugural day, Circle Officer Idam Bagra highlighted plan, program and policy of government for the development of the area.
Former Minister, Takar Doni briefed about the advantage of newly created administrative center and thanked Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu, Minister RD & Panchayati Raj Takar Marde Chief Secretary Tabom Bam for their sincere efforts in creation of the new administrative centre.
Baririjo block Anchal chairperson Gumki Hai, President of MACCC Rekom Maro also thanked to all the government officials of the district as well as secretariat and all the public leaders of the area for their cooperation and help in creating the new administrative center.

Evict illegal encroachers of Arunachal land: APPSU
ITANAGAR, Mar 21: All Papum Poma Student’s Union (APPSU) has expressed shock over the reported illegal encroachment carried out by people of Assam at Tarasso circle in Papum Pare district.
Union claimed that encroachers are illegally constructing house in the Arunachal side completely undermining territorial integrity of state.
APPSU further stated IRBn jawans deployed at Tarasso are unable to evict the encroachers due to inadequate numbers of jawan and lack of proper administrative guidance. Union has requested state government to immediately take up the matter and deploy paramilitary forces in the area to evict the illegal encroachers.

A success story in dairy development
Women Empowerment -
ITANAGAR, Mar 21: It is general belief that activity like Dairy Development is not
appropriate for tribal people. But a tribal woman from Laptap Village, Sagalee has
proved this wrong by successfully establishing a dairy unit of 8 cross-
It started with establishment of Yeer Loma (Creator and Designer in Nyshi Language) Farmers Club in July 2008 under sponsorship of N.N.Charitable Society, APRB Sagalee, and NABARD.
True to its name, members of this farmers club wanted to do something different, something creative. Inspired by concept of Farmers Club, Tana Yahi, wanted to do something new, creative to prove her mettle.
After formation of Farmers Club T. Yahi visited NABARD office several times and discussed with officers of NABARD about establishment of a dairy unit at their village. She was apprised about Venture Capital Scheme for Dairy / Poultry of Govt of India being implemented through NABARD. Under this scheme borrowers are extended 50% interest free loan from NABARD but the project was to be sanctioned by a financing bank which was a Herculean task for a tribal family. But the Farmers Club came to the rescue of Yahi.
Mr Kunwar, Branch Manager, APRB Sagalee, who was instrumental in formation of Year Loma Farmers Club agreed to extend loan to Yahi as she was a member of the Farmers Club. But the matter was not yet over. As per principles of Development through Credit and Adoption of Technology, a borrower has to acquire technical knowledge before availing credit. Yahi was advised to go through training of rearing cross bred cows. The entrepreneur woman she is, she agreed to undergo training in Dairy Development. Thanks to Dr. Pranjal Borah, and his team in KVK Papumpare that they provided technical guidance to Yahi, not only in classroom but on farm practical and interaction.
Equipped with technical knowledge and lot of confidence she approached BM, APRB Sagalee in January 2009 for loan under venture capital scheme. Branch Manager decided to extend a loan of Rs 3.00 Lakh for shed and purchase of 8 cross bred cows.
Now Yahi became proud owner of 8 number of cross bred cows.
KVK officials also visited Laptap Village and provided guidance for construction of low cost scientific shed. Rearing of CB cows in a shade was altogether a new activity for tribal farmers of Sagalee. Other farmers used to visit Yahi’s house to watch construction of shed, CB Cows, calves and also milching of cows.
Now, M/S Yahi Dairy Farm, named after none other than Yahi, (long live women empowerment), started supplying milk to Sagalee HQ, 20 km away from Laptap.
There is great demand for cow milk as people in Sagalee are used to powder milk till
then. Tana Tada better half of Yahi shouldered responsibility of marketing of milk.
Every day 16 litters of milk is supplied to various households of Sagalee @ Rs 30
per liter. During last eight months total sale of milk was to the tune of Rs. 1,15,200/-
“Unless I repay loan taken from bank how my fellow villagers will get loan” says Yahi.
This is a live story to be replicated by all tribal farmers in Arunachal. It dispels
the notion that tribals, poor are not bankable. As on today, Smti Yahi has earned
net income of Rs 31,700/-
Here it is not much important how much Yahi earned from rearing of cows, important point is freedom to choose one what likes to do. Yahi has proved that point. May the success of Yahi be the pace setter for many more women who are dreaming of a better life in the ‘ bottom of pyramid’. (The story is contributed by NABARD)

AASU’s appeal to Govt
ITANAGAR: All Aka Students Union (AASU) of East Kameng District has appealed the state Govt to approach the union external affairs ministry and Nepal Embassy to trace out the Arunachalee children who are reportedly missing in Nepal.
The union also lauded MLA Tani Loffa ‘for his prompt action in drawing the attention of the Govt towards the incident’.
Earlier, All Aka Youths Association had also demanded that all twenty four children taken from Bana area be brought back.
East Kameng SP had also informed that a committee was formed to look into the matter and it would submit its report within a week’s time.
